When you lose a job, you also lose your community. When you are concerned about job security, you may not feel comfortable having those conversations with your co-workers. You can have them here.
Let's be honest: We will still need to talk about careers since they are how we make money to live. However, in this community, you will be amongst similar people encountering the same challenges. We hope to create networking opportunities and share tips on navigating your job search.
You may also be tired of thinking about your career, but because of the market, many people only want to talk about their career. When we connect, we promise to "lay off" all the career talk and focus on life outside your career. Guest speakers on nutrition, mental wellness, spirituality, and getting creative- our goal is to help you see what else is possible in life outside your career.
There is more to life than your career, but maybe you forgot what else is possible. Our community can help you access resources and information that may broaden your idea of what is possible with your life.
Now is the time to learn something new, but don't limit yourself to learning skills you leverage in your career. Perhaps now is the time to learn a craft, take up a sport, or become a writer. This group can provide the support and guidance you need to broaden your capabilities.
We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.
It is essential that everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, or identity will not be tolerated.
Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.
My picture was taken on the first anniversary of my being laid off.
I am the happiest I have ever felt, yet I have no job.
How can that be?
Answering that question is why I started Lay Off Me.
I want to help others through this difficult time.
I'm not a coach or a cheerleader, but I am finding my way through this, and you can too!
Honestly, I would love to work with people so that instead of being worried they are getting laid off- they embrace it!
I would love for some person to think:
"Man, I hope they lay me off because I bet my life would be better."
It can happen.
